Travel Stories

I love to travel.  It is one of my passions and I am so happy that teaching has given me the opportunity to do it.  Teaching has provided the financial means as well as the time to be a globetrotter.  In this blog I will recount some of my travel stories with you - especially as they pertain to science, biology, health and education.

At last count I have traveled to the following countries:
Japan, Uganda, Egypt, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Cuba, Mexico, Ecuador (and the Galapagos), Peru, Chile, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia (Borneo), Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar (previously Burma), China, Hawaii, Thailand, Spain and Mongolia.

Travelling with Students:
I wanted to spread my love of traveling and exploration to some of my students, so one year I organized a trip for 15 students to Costa Rica for 12 days.  It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!  One of the best teaching/learning experiences I've ever had in my life.  We studied 5 different forest ecosystems, did a cultural exchange by living with locals on a farm for 5 days (and yes, we had to farm too - I know know how to grow bananas and pineapples!), we got our butts kicked at soccer, swam in the ocean and in waterfalls, rode Costa Rica's biggest zip line over Monteverde's cloud forests, learned about the culture and language and so much more.

This summer (2014) I will be spending 5 weeks in Croatia!
Only my second time in Europe.  As you can see I've strategically planned my world explorations so that I traveled to the most inexpensive parts of the world while my salary was low, and now that I've reached the top of my salary grid, I'm going to start exploring tres tres expensivo Europe.  I hope to eventually make it to the Antarctic one day!
